Guest posts: what they are, what they cost, when to buy one
The default unit of paid link building. A publisher runs a new article that mentions your page; the article is written by the publisher, by you, or by a service. It is the most flexible placement and the one most often sold on domains whose authority was assembled rather than earned, which is why the checks matter more here than anywhere.
What is a guest post?
A new page on the publisher’s site, usually 600 to 1,500 words, with one or two links to yours in the body. Marked as sponsored on some publishers and not on others; the API records the rel attributes it finds at each survival check. Turnaround is typically a week. Because the page is new, it starts with no authority of its own and inherits the domain’s; the link’s value depends almost entirely on whether the domain’s authority is real and whether the article stays up.
What does a guest post cost?
The median across every marketplace we buy from is $170 at the buyer price, on 161,294 non-suspect publishers, with the cheapest seller of each domain counted once. Suspect domains, excluded from that figure, ask less: the cheap tail is where bought authority lives. The full distribution by DR band and subject is on the pricing page, refreshed hourly.
When is a guest post the right choice?
When the page you are promoting needs context to link to naturally, when you want control over the surrounding copy and anchor, or when the target is new and needs its first referring domains. Less suited to a page that already has a rich profile and needs a few strong votes: for that, an insertion into an established article that already has its own links is often the better buy.
What should you check before buying?
- Verification. Whether the domain’s authority is matched by an organic footprint; 24.7% of measured domains fail. Rows carry the verdict and which test fired.
- Survival. Where we have bought before, what share of our placements is still live at 90 days. Null under three orders, never guessed.
- Who writes it.
order_requirements.contentsays whether the publisher writes, whether you may supply, and what a supplied article must meet. A supplied article is due 14 days after ordering. - The seller gap. The same placement on the same domain is sold by several marketplaces at different prices; the median gap is 98%. Quotes take the cheapest.
Every row an agent sees carries the checks above, so the brief can be short:
“Plan 5 verified guest posts on finance sites at DR 50+, natural anchor mix, under $1,500 total.”
